Seborrheic dermatitis

 

Definition: It's kind of eczema that is perennial. Usually, it occurs as chronic inflammation on scalp or face, especially eyebrow, nose, around mouth, ears, armpit, chest and groin because of sebaceous glands' activation. 

Reason

The exact reason hasn't been found yet, however there are few theories.

 

 

First, sebum is related somehow directly or indirectly. This theory is supported that seborrheic dermatitis occurs often in neonatal period and adulthood. Because in those periods, sebaceous glands are very active.

Second, seborrheic dermatitis occur because of bacteria and yeast fungus. Even though bacteria and yeast fungus were found in affected area, this thesis is not supported. Because pityrosporum was not detected, even less than normal healthy scalp and the number of spores were quite little. This means pityrosporum can't be the right reason.

Third, it is related with neural transmitter. This is because seborrheic dermatitis occur people who's got nervous system dysfunction.

Forth, the weather like humidity and temperature can be related. It is a fact that it occurs in fall or winter. In these seasons, it's known that seborrhiec dermatitis can be worse because of low temperature and low humidity.

Fifth, disorder of cuticularization. This is because the cuticularization is quite increased on affected area like psoriasis and it can be better when it's treated by medicine which controls cell proliferation.

Other than these, there is a theory based on medicine and nutrition disorder. Medicine like neuroleptic, cimetidine, gold, methyl dopa can cause similar disease like seborrhiec dermatitis and disease caused by lack of zinc, or if depended on only carbohydrate infusion solution for a long time can cause similar disease like seborrhiec dermatitis on the face.
