The effect of herbal medicin on liver and kidney

Few months ago, a client who is been taking herbal medicine asked us.

"I have been taking herbal medicine for quite a long time. Isn't it going to damage the liver?"

Not only this client, several clients ask same question. Maybe it's because some doctors said that taking oriental medicine for a long time can be unhealthy.

So, in our clinic, we had  tests about this for relieving anxiety of our patients and notifying the safety of our herbal medicine. We did a blood test of patients who

have taken herbal medicine for a long time in our clinic. We chose 36 people (male-17/female-19, average of age-30) and they were taking medicine more than 6months from May, 2011.

Let's have a look the result of liver function.

We tested GOT, GPT, GGT.

Blue is for male's average, Red is for female's average. Black alphabet I is normal range of male and female.

The result shows that normal range of GOT is 15.82IU/L for male and 11.26IU/L for female, GPT is 24.88IU/L for male and 11.24IU/L for female, GGT is 31.29IU/L for male and 15.79IU/L. All the results are absolutely normal.

Secondly, the test of kidney function. We tested Uric Acid, Creatinine, BUN.

The average of Uric Acid is 5.5mg/dl for male and 4.23mg/dl for female, Creatinine is 1.04mg/dl for male and 0.88mg/dl for female, Bun is 10.59mg/dl is for male and 10.78mg/dl for female. We can see all the results are normal as well as the result above.

In conclusion, the blood test shows that all the patients who are taking medicine didn't get any bad effect on their liver and kidney. Currently, there are some theses that oriental medicine doesn't trouble the function of liver, in the other way around, there are many theses that it is effective for liver function.
